Project won’t open in 3D
If your project does not load in the 3D editor, the issue may be related to your computer specifications, graphics card drivers, or the number of objects in the project. This article explains the main reasons and possible solutions.
Minimum and recommended system requirements
For stable performance, make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements. If it does not, the app may crash or fail to open projects in 3D.
Minimum system requirements:
- Processor: Intel or AMD 1.8 GHz
- Graphics card: 2 GB VRAM, DirectX 10 compatible
- RAM: 8 GB
- Operating system: Windows 10 (64-bit), macOS 10.14 or later
Recommended system requirements:
- Processor: Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 9 and above
- Graphics card: 6 GB VRAM, DirectX 12 compatible
- RAM: 16 GB
- Operating system: Windows 11, macOS 12.5 or later
If your computer doesn’t meet the requirements
If your hardware is below the minimum specs, 3D projects may fail to open. In this case:
- try working only with simple projects;
- avoid importing models with too many polygons;
- close other programs to free up memory.
Update your graphics card drivers
If your computer meets the requirements but the issue persists, update your graphics card drivers from the official NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel website.
Project size
If your project used to open without issues but now fails, the newly added elements in your layout may be too heavy. This often happens with models that have a high polygon count.
How to test the 3D editor
To check if the issue is related to your project or the app itself, create a test project:
- Open Planoplan.
- Create a new project.
- Build a simple layout (for example, a 3×3 m room).
- Switch to the 3D editor.
If the new project opens in 3D, your original project may be too heavy.
