When installing or uninstalling Planoplan on Windows, you may encounter errors with codes 2502 or 2503. These issues are caused not by the app itself, but by the Windows MSI installer.

This article explains the possible reasons and solutions.

Possible causes

The errors usually occur due to one of the following:

  • the app was installed incorrectly;
  • the installer file is corrupted or incomplete;
  • the wrong installer was downloaded.

Solutions

It is often difficult to determine the exact cause, so try the solutions in the order below.

Change access rights to the Temp folder

  1. Open File Explorer and enter the path: C:\Windows\Temp
  2. If you see a message about insufficient rights, click Continue with administrator rights.
  3. Right-click the folder → Properties.
  4. Go to the Security tab.
  5. Select CREATOR OWNER in the list of users and click Edit.
  6. In the permissions section, allow Full control.
  7. Save changes and restart your computer.

Restart Windows Explorer

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. On the Processes tab, find Windows Explorer.
  3. Right-click it → End task.
  4. Restart it: press Win + R, type explorer.exe, and click OK.

Create the Installer folder (if missing)

  1. Open the path: C:\Windows
  2. If the Installer folder is missing, create it: right-click → New Folder.
  3. Name it Installer and restart your computer.

The Installer folder is hidden by default. Enable display of hidden files before creating it.

Grant access to the Installer folder

If the folder exists but the issue persists:

  1. Right-click the folder → Properties Security tab.
  2. Select CREATOR OWNER.
  3. Grant Full control, the same way as for the Temp folder.

Delete the installer from the Installer folder

If the error occurs only with one app:

  1. Open C:\Windows\Installer.
  2. Add the Subject column to the display.
  3. Find the installer belonging to the problematic app and delete it.

Run the installer via Command Prompt

  1. Locate the installer file in C:\Windows\Installer.
  2. Copy its name (for example: 644fef3.msi).
  3. Open Command Prompt with administrator rights (via search in the taskbar).
  4. Enter the full path and filename: C:\Windows\Installer\644fef3.msi
  5. Press Enter to run the installation.

Conclusion

Errors 2502 and 2503 are related to Windows restrictions, not to Planoplan itself. In most cases, adjusting access rights or restarting system processes fixes the problem.

If none of the solutions work, download the installer again from the official Planoplan website and try reinstalling.
