Elena Fakhretdinova on Creating Drawings in Planoplan
How a practicing designer with 15 years of experience creates all her working documentation in one program

Many colleagues know and value Planoplan for its powerful visualization tools. However, I'd like to share another, no less important aspect of the program — creating professional drawings and plans. Through personal experience, I've found Planoplan to be very convenient for working on all project documentation, and I'm ready to show you how.

About Myself and My Journey to Planoplan
My name is Elena Fakhretdinova. I'm an interior designer with 15 years of experience. I've been using Planoplan practically since its inception — for over 12 years. And all this time, we've grown and evolved together.
My search for the perfect tool was, perhaps, a typical one: I tried simple programs that didn't deliver the required quality, then moved on to learning 3ds Max. After taking courses, I understood why a 3D visualizer is a separate profession. Mastering that complex program requires more than one course and at least six months of intensive practice. I, however, wanted to focus on creativity and working with clients. Planoplan, with its intuitive interface and solid rendering quality, became the optimal solution for me.
Now, I've managed to establish a clear and logical workflow: I lead the entire project, from concept to working drawings, in one program. Let me show you what this looks like in practice — from the first measurement to handing over the documentation.
My Workflow: From Measurements to Project Delivery
Survey Plan
This is where work on any project begins. I create it in Planoplan immediately after taking on-site measurements, while everything is still fresh in my memory. I input all the details recorded at the site. The more detailed the survey plan, the easier the subsequent work.

Floor Plan Solutions
This is one of the most important stages, where the logic and aesthetics of the future space are established. I create floor plans in Planoplan, working directly in 3D and only switching to 2D mode to draw walls and axes. First, I sketch everything in broad strokes (for example, using a cube instead of a wardrobe), then I select the best options, detail them, and finalize them on the plan.
Along with the floor plan sketches, I send the client a room tour (a screen recording where I "walk" through the rooms in the project and comment on the solutions). This format allows the client to better understand and literally "experience" the scenarios in the new space, making a more informed choice.

Visualization
Here, Planoplan allows for creating beautiful, photorealistic shots in high resolution. The rendering quality is excellent, and with the introduction of the "Complex Materials" feature, the images have become practically comparable to visualizations done in 3ds Max.

Working Drawings
After the design is approved, I proceed to the documentation. I create all drawings — plans, elevations, schedules, and technical specifications — right here. I no longer have to manage the project in parallel across two different programs. This has significantly sped up the process and made work much more comfortable.

Why I Choose Planoplan for Drawings
- Unified Environment — Zero Data Loss. No more duplicating work or switching between programs. This saves time and eliminates errors when transferring dimensions.
- Intuitive Interface. The drawing tools are logical and easy to learn. I managed to create neat and informative drawings practically on the first try.
- Dynamic Development. I want to emphasize this point. The way Planoplan is developing is something I truly admire. The development team is in constant dialogue with designers, attentively responding to their suggestions and requests. Updates with new tools are released almost monthly.
A real-life example: Once, I spent a lot of time trying to apply a texture to a floor plan. The feature wasn't available, so I had to use workarounds, but the result was mediocre. And literally on the same day, I saw an announcement about an update featuring exactly this function! It's gratifying to realize that Planoplan's developers are thinking along the same lines as you are.
Addressing the Main Objection
Yes, I often hear: "Planoplan is for pretty pictures, but you need to draw elsewhere." My response as a practitioner: for complex architectural tasks or team work in a bureau with its own software standards, other programs might be required. But for a private interior designer, Planoplan is an excellent alternative. It's easy to learn and sufficiently functional for creating any necessary drawings.
In the end, the quality of a drawing is determined not by the software, but by the designer's competence. And Planoplan gives me everything I need to realize that competence.

A Few Words in Conclusion
For me, Planoplan has ceased to be just a program for visuals. Now it's my main workstation, where I create a project in a unified environment: from plan to 3D model, and from it — to drawings.
There's a concept called efficiency. You can spend months or even years mastering highly complex architectural software, only to use 5-10% of its capabilities in your actual work. Or you can set up your workflow efficiently right away, choosing software tailored to your real tasks. In terms of speed and ease of use, Planoplan, in my opinion, currently has no competitors. And considering its pace of development, it has every chance of becoming the leading tool for interior design.
